Passkeys

01

What a passkey is

A passkey replaces the password with a key stored on your device, unlocked by your fingerprint, face or device PIN. There is nothing to remember and nothing to type.

Because the key never leaves your device and is tied to our domain, a passkey cannot be phished: a fake site cannot ask for it.

02

Adding one

From the security section of your profile, add a passkey. Your device or password manager takes over, asks you to confirm, and the passkey is registered.

If your passkeys sync — through iCloud Keychain, Google Password Manager, 1Password or Bitwarden — they follow you onto your other devices automatically.

03

Signing in with it

On the login page, choose the passkey option and confirm on your device. That is the whole login: no password, and no second factor to type either, because the passkey already proves both the device and you.

04

Keep a way back in

Register a passkey on more than one device where you can, and keep your password and two-factor recovery codes intact. If you only ever had one passkey on one phone and that phone is gone, the password path is what saves you.
